(May 21, 2026) By Regional Director Adam Gretencord
The Texas Region hosted their first Lone Star Assembly at the Camino de la Paz Retreat Center in Bryan, Texas on April 24-26, 2026.
Friday
The assembly began with raising the flag and reciting the Angelus at noon.

Then began our first of seven sessions for the weekend. The sessions included archery, axe throwing, BB guns, fishing, field sports, orienteering, camping, firemanship, first aid, ecology, and canoeing.

After dinner and lowering the flag, we gathered around a Texas-sized bonfire for the rosary.

Saturday
The morning began with breakfast, raising the flag, and praying the morning offering followed by a couple sessions including a captain’s meeting. Captain Robert Feldman (Troop 22) led a discussion on the finer points of creating a 501 (c) (3) and its benefits for a troop.
After lunch, 1st Lieutenant Stan Tallman (Troop 77) gave a presentation on his success his troop has had with retaining and keeping senior cadets engaged. The afternoon finished with the final session, dinner, and lowering the flag before making our way to the pavilion for mass.

Following mass, we held our St. George presentations where three troops competed in telling their rendition of the story of St. George judged by all troop captains.

Troop 815 of San Antonio are the first to take home the traveling trophy!

While the scores were being tallied, three senior cadets who recently earned Tribune gave a short testimony followed by Q/A. Congratulations to Matthew Roth (5), Max Layfield (1531), & Caleb Carpenter (815)! You all are an inspiration to our younger cadets – and fathers!

The evening concluded with the rosary around the campfire and popsicles.

Sunday
Sunday began with breakfast, the morning offering, and a meeting with the dads while the cadets cleaned the campgrounds and played games. Regional Director, Adam Gretencord, gave a short talk on Mission and Initiation and opened the floor for fathers to share their TSG experiences and ask questions. The assembly concluded with a survey and prayer.

Saint George, pray for us!
